Hey team! This is the school lunch menu for the next couple weeks.
Our school is in a very fortunate position to have lunch provided for every student in the school. Last year, approximately 55,000 financially disadvanaged children went to school without lunch everyday. That's a lot of hungry tummies for a looong school day ...
I feel grateful that my students will not only be provided with a healthy meal, combined with our fruit for morning tea. Hopefully this will allow them to concentrate longer in class and become the best learners they can be.
It also makes me happy to see so many of Room 7 enjoying this opportunity, especially those who's taste palettes are being challenged. The following article outlines just a few of the benefits of being able to eat a healthy lunch, as well as some useful points of advice for leading a healthy, enjoyable lifestyle: Victoria University of Wellington's "How are you fuelling your mind, body and life?"
Room 7, what are you enjoying about our lunches so far? What friendly advice do you have for our school buddies who may be struggling with the new lunch menu?

Yay now I don't have to wake up early to do my lunch😃
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see you happy, Satui, but imagine how much more happier you could be with TWO lunches?!

ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on our class blog. We get fruit delivered to our school for our students to have. From what I'm told, this is quite common with other schools in our area.
That's quite cool that you get to use the microwave - I guess it would be the best way to enjoy last night's leftovers!
Really like that you guys are into cooking so much. We don't have access to a ktichen for students but we go to Tamaki College for our Technology sessions. Food Tech is one of the classes our student's will rotate through throughout the year.
Our lunch options do account for students who are gluten free or vegetarian, and I can definitely say they are ALL tasty options.
Hope you're having a great week!

Mr N
Kia ora, Ashly!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on our blog. Our school has a local caterer who prepares our lunches offsite. Then the lunches are delivered to our school everyday during morning tea. Sorry, I cannot advise who the chef is but can say we are very grateful.

Kia ora, Daniel!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on our blog. I've taken a few pictures of the lunches we get, I'll try my best to get a new post with the pictures added. I can tell you that the roast beef sandwich was VERY good!

ReplyDeleteThank you to you and all of your lovely students for taking the time to comment on our class blog, we really do appreciate it! I will ask my class what their traditional dishes are. I'm from the small and mighty island of Niue in the South Pacific and one of my favourite dishes is takihi. My brother in law dubbed it "Niuean Lasagne". It's a dish made from taro, pawpaw and coconut cream, baked in an oven or umu over a long period of time - so good!
I'm sure we can get a picture of us enjoying our lunches, so please watch this space. We're yet to read your zucchini brownie blog post but will head over there shortly. It sounds delicious.
Have a great rest of the week, R21!
Regards
Mr N
Kia ora, Laisa!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on our blog. I agree with you, getting the right fuel into our bodies helps us to stay energised and awake in class, so we can do our best in our learning. This is a government initiative which only started this year, and our school is very lucky to be part of it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on our class blog. That's a really good idea about the weet-bix at school. Food is fuel for the body, and weet-bix is just one item of great "brain food". We have a breakfast club for our students on a Monday and Friday morning before school and weet-bix is on the menu - it's one of my favourite cereals for breakfast.
The wrap was really tasty. We'll try and get some food photos up in a new blog post.
I like the survey idea. We've definitely got some favourites but I can tell you that we are all especially grateful that we have lunch provided for all students in our school.
Kind regards
Mr N
Kia ora, Leandri!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on our post. I'm happy that this post struck a chord with you. We will try and get a post up soon with us enjoying our lunches. Yes, I can confirm that our lunches are government-funded. Students are also still allowed to bring in their own lunch if they feel like it. Because we are a smaller school, we are pretty lucky to get seconds most times.
Kind regards
Mr N
Kia ora, Trinity!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on our class blog and supporting this post with your positive feedback. Our lunches government-funded and our lunches are created by local caterer, who delivers these to our school every day.
Kind regards
