Term 2 Week 1: Welcome Back!

Kia ora, Ruma Whitu!

First of all, welcome back to school! We've had three days in class and probably had one of the most productive and busiest starts to the term.

Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to the Y7&8 boys and girls who trialled for football today.

I could tell you were all excited and looking forward to it. What I'm really impressed with is the patience, skill, care and respect for others and teamwork you showed during your trials. If your football skill was already good enough, you've made my job for selecting teams a lot harder with your genuine support for one another. Shout out to Fabian, Pita and Poni for their positive sportsmanship during gameplay, as well as our girls for holding their own against the boys.

What have you enjoyed so far about being back at school?

All the best for your first week back :)

Thanks for commenting. I think it's important to remind students, friends, classmates, teammates that their effort is always appreciated, especially when they try their best or when they're trying something new.

The difference between football and soccer depends on where you're from or where you've grown up. I grew up knowing 'football' as rugby or league, but at my last school most kids called soccer 'football'. My current students and colleagues had to keep asking me which sport I was talking about because I was calling what they knew as soccer, "football". I think I confused myself with that explanation, I tried my best but I hope you got it.

Hope you're having an awesome Week 2!

    Kind regards
    Mr N

Thanks for commenting on this post. Soccer is definitely the 'crowd favourite' at Ruapotaka School.
That's really cool that your school have got lots of sporting opportunities coming up. All the best to you and your students for the upcoming season. We hope the weather holds up for your events.
We don't have any other sports or set teams happening, partly due to being a smaller school. I've seen some of our seniors playing volleyball so I'm looking forward to getting prepared for that tournament in Week 6. Ki o rahi is another event to come later in the term.
    Take care!
